Meet RUNColumbus team member Alicia Wise. Alicia’s ‘significant other’ is David Watters who has two daughters at Ohio State. They have a Pit/Boxer mix named Castle. Alicia has two running goals. The first is to run a sub-2:09:00 in the Capital City Half Marathon and to finish a full marathon.
Why/when did you start running? I was an awful 2 miler in high school. I have run consistently for health and weight control since I was 19 (I’m currently 45). Ran a handful of 5Ks in my early 20s. Got back into running races around 2016 and much more seriously over the last year or two.
What is your favorite aspect(s) of running? Stress relief, competing against myself and my own PRs, being outside, being able to eat carbs, awesome playlists, the amazing feeling of accomplishment after a race, and the energy of a live event.
What excites you about being part of the RUNColumbus Race Series and Team? I want to be a part of the local running community (currently I don’t run regularly with anyone) and the energy and support that go with it. To have frequent, regular races scheduled with familiar faces to keep me motivated and on track for the Cap City Half in April and maybe the Children’s full marathon in October if that goes well. Also, I like the competitive aspect of challenging myself.
