This busy wife and mom took up running in July 2018. She went all-in completing 12 races in 2019!

Hi, my name is Lo Yost. My husband Charis and I have a daughter Theodora and four dogs.

Why did you start running? To be a part of 1% of the US population is pretty cool, right? That was my initial motivation to start running and train for my first half marathon. One (very hot) day in July of 2018, I put on my gear, laced up my shoes, and hit the pavement. It took me almost 30 minutes to complete a full mile. My goal was to run a race every month or 12 races in 2019 plus my first half marathon. I was able to achieve that goal and then some!

Favorite thing about running? My favorite thing about running is that it can be done anywhere and (mostly) at any time. And if you plan it right, you can change the level of difficulty by adding in some speed or even some hills!

Favorite race(s) in Central Ohio? Favorite races would have to be Cap City, Walking with the Dead 5k, FLIP 10K, OSU 4 Miler, and Emerald City. I cheered on the runners at the Columbus Marathon and it inspired me to sign up next year!

What advice would you give to someone just getting started? Don’t get discouraged by what “runners” look or act like, just start running! Running is putting one foot in front of the other faster than walking- don’t overthink it. Set a goal for yourself to keep you accountable. Races are a fun way to complete a goal. Starting simple and building over time will allow you to gain the confidence to continue running. Once you start, it becomes a forever love.
