Meet Liz Joachim, a sales pro with BSN Sports Columbus—a RUNColumbus sponsor. Liz (pictured back right) and her husband Todd are raising seven children—Kayla, Cade, Alex, Awbrey, Reese, Aidyn, and Bradyn, and two cats, Studley and Rookie. Liz is a dedicated runner who is balancing training with her busy job and family life.

Why did you start running? I have been running since the seventh grade.  Being a hyper child and adult, it was a great way to release my extra energy.  I also decided at 29 years old that I wanted to do my first marathon before I turned 30.  Fast forward 20 years later, I am still running marathons.

Favorite thing about running? The friends I have made throughout my 20 years of racing and a great group of women who love to run at 5:00 a.m. They are called the Powell BAMR’s -Bad A$$ Mother Runner. Also tied for my favorite thing is the calories running burns.  I love food and while training I can eat everything I want.

Favorite race(s) in Central Ohio? Columbus Marathon

What advice would you give to someone just getting started? Start off slowly.  When people start to run they think they can go out and do 5 miles and then wonder why they are sore.  Start with 30 minutes of a run/walk—1 minute running, 9 minutes walking.  Repeat 3 times.  Each week add an additional minute of running to build up to running for 30 minutes straight.
