Meet RUNColumbus team member Laura Fitzpatrick. Laura and her husband Josh have two active kids—Rachel (age 6) and Elias (age 4).

Why/when did you start running? I started running in high school to challenge myself to finish a half marathon. I have run off and on ever since. I decided to try my first marathon after my first-born son passed away. He lived 26 months, and I thought it would be a sweet way to remember him and find a unique sense of healing through an activity I have loved for so long.

What is your favorite aspect(s) of running? While I enjoy the physical benefits of running, it is the mental and emotional elements of the sport that I value most. The process of focusing in on the next step, clearing my mind as I am temporarily separated from distractions, and challenging myself to grow are all key components of that mental space for me.

What excites you about being part of the RUNColumbus Race Series and Team? I rarely-to-never run in races, so this series opens up what is an otherwise untapped world for me. I also love the idea of supporting so many wonderful causes and organizations.
