Behind the scenes, work is well underway on the 2027 RUNColumbus Race Series. Early savings registration opens September 1, when we will also reveal the new season’s race lineup.
And that lineup? It is one big puzzle.
More Than Dates on a Calendar
Building the schedule is about much more than filling dates on a calendar. Each race represents a piece, and we look carefully at how those pieces fit together to create a season with variety, flexibility, challenge, and purpose.
We seek both familiar favorites and unique new experiences. We balance short and long distances, paved roads and trails, and events suitable for different ages, paces, goals, and experience levels.
We want athletes to enjoy the energy of large race-day experiences while also discovering smaller, more intimate events where personal connections and the local community take center stage.
Creating More Opportunities to Participate
We continue our practice of not scheduling two races on the same date unless they take place on different surfaces—one paved and one trail.
This gives teammates more opportunities to participate while allowing us to support as many race partners as possible throughout the season.
Strengthening Our Communities
Community impact matters, too.
Many races serve as significant fundraisers for nonprofit organizations. By including and promoting these events, we help connect more runners, walkers, and volunteers with organizations that serve people and support causes that strengthen our communities.
Most of our races remain within the 11-county Central Ohio region we call home. At the same time, we remain open to select opportunities outside the Columbus area that provide a worthwhile and memorable experience.
A Connector and Promotional Partner
RUNColumbus does not charge races to be part of the series.
We view ourselves as a connector and promotional partner. Our goal is to introduce more people to great events, increase participation and volunteerism, elevate nonprofit races, and strengthen the broader running and walking community.
A race is added to the official schedule only after its organizers give us permission by completing a Race Registration Form.
Personal Connections Make a Difference
Each year, we reach out to many race directors and organizations. Sometimes we hear back quickly. Other times, despite repeated outreach, we receive no response.
That is where personal connections can make a difference.
If you have a relationship with a race director you believe would be a strong fit for RUNColumbus, we welcome your help in making an introduction. A connection from someone they know and trust can often open the door to a conversation.
The Picture Is Taking Shape
There are still several pieces to place before the 2027 picture is complete. We are reviewing dates, exploring possibilities, making connections, and working to build a season that offers something meaningful for every teammate.
The full picture begins to come into focus on September 1.
Let’s RUNColumbus TOGETHER.
